Frank Sabatini, Chairman, CERA Global Association (CGA), looks back at his three-year tenure

November will mark the end of my term as Chairman of the CERA Global Association (CGA). It has been an interesting and fulfilling three years. November also marks the 6th anniversary of the signing of the treaty creating the CERA Global Association in Hyderabad, India. In many ways we can say that we’ve come a long way. Over the past three years we have shifted from building infrastructure to support the CGA to expanding our ability to market our brand.

Key accomplishments have been to:

  1. Design and launch an enhanced website (www.ceraglobal.org) that includes a “find a CERA function”.
  2. Launch a periodic newsletter (eventually a monthly publication).
  3. Expand and strengthen our communication with our award signatories through routine calls.
  4. Exhibit at a number of events worldwide including the International Actuarial Congress in Washington DC and the Asia Actuarial Conference.
  5. Create a CERA Marketing Toolkit for use by award signatories and their members.

During the past three years we have added the following new award signatories bringing the total to sixteen.

  1. Actuarial Institute of Chinese Taipei
  2. Den Danske Aktuarforening (DDA Denmark)
  3. Institute of Actuaries of India
  4. Koninklijk Actuarieel Genootschap (Netherlands)
  5. Schweizerische Aktuarvereinigung (Switzerland)

In addition we have added two new Acceding Parties to the treaty and have a number of associations in the process of applying to join the treaty.

  1. Aktuarvereinigung Österreichs (Actuarial Association of Austria)
  2. Istituto Italiano degli Attuari (Italy)

The CGA review panel, led by Paul King, over the past three years has diligently reviewed each award signatory to ensure that their CERA credentialing process meets our rigorous quality standards. Thanks to all of the volunteers from all of the award signatories for their important contributions.

I also want to thank the CGA Board for their support during my term. I especially want to thank the CGA staff of Trevor Watkins, Dawn McIntosh and Thomas Evans.

What started as a unique and creative ERM credential by the Society of Actuaries is becoming a recognised ERM credential worldwide. The efforts of the initial CGA Board led by Fred Rowley of Australia can now be considered a global success. We ask each of our CERA members to help us ensure that CERA continues as the globally recognised ERM designation by promoting your credential at every opportunity. Over the next few years we will aggressively promote the credential with actuaries, employers, regulators and the general public. I look forward to our continued success.
