Nick is Life Practice Leader and a consulting actuary with the London office of Milliman. He advises life assurance clients on a wide range of matters, including mergers and acquisitions, and financial management. He has been heavily involved in the restructuring of the UK life industry over the past twenty years, including advising Standard Life on its demutualisation and flotation and acting as Independent Expert for Aviva’s inherited estate reattribution.
He has been appointed actuary to several life companies in the UK and Ireland, and is currently actuarial function holder for two UK life companies. He is involved in the governance of some of the UK’s largest with profits funds, as a with profits committee member or adviser or independent person. International experience includes involvement in transactions in continental Europe, Asia, South Africa and the Caribbean.
Nick trained as an actuary at Imperial Life of Canada. Much of his consulting career was spent at Watson Wyatt (now part of Towers Watson), where he was head of the firm’s global insurance consulting practice from 1995 to 2002. He also chaired the firm’s professional risk management committee for four years.
He is currently Chairman of the International Board of the Institute and Faculty and the Membre Titulaire for the Institute and Faculty at the Actuarial Association of Europe.
A graduate of Cambridge University, Nick was a member of the Council of the Institute of Actuaries for 16 years between 1993 and 2010, and Institute President from 2006 to 2008.
In September 2018, Nick was elected Chair of the CERA Global Association. He served three years as Chair, with his term ending in September 2021.
